No school for Oʻahu students on Friday, Feb. 13

The Hawaiʻi State Department of Education (HIDOE) announced that students will not report to HIDOE schools on Oʻahu on Friday, Feb. 13, as Oʻahu schools observe a rescheduled institute day.

Monday, Feb. 9, had been scheduled as an institute day for Oʻahu, in accordance with the teachers’ contract, with no students on campus. Because schools will be closed statewide that day due to severe weather, the Oʻahu institute day has been rescheduled to Friday, Feb. 13.

As a result, there will be no in-person instruction for Oʻahu students on Friday, Feb. 13. Neighbor island schools were already scheduled to observe institute day on Friday, Feb. 13, and this adjustment aligns Oʻahu schools with those previously planned institute day activities.

The Department values instructional time and worked to minimize disruption while ensuring required professional development time for educators. The Department also recognizes that changes to the school schedule may affect families and childcare arrangements and encourages families to plan accordingly. Schools are working to notify families directly.

On Friday, Feb. 13, school offices and HIDOE offices will remain open, and employees will follow their normal institute day expectations.
