Welcome to 4th grade! This year we have four 4th grade teachers.
In fourth grade we have high expectations for our students. This year students are expected to keep track of assignments in their daily planners to help students keep up on completing homework every night. This is also a method of communication between parents and teachers.
Our school day is from 8:00am-2:05pm each day except Wednesday. Wednesday is early release at 1:15pm for staff development. If your child needs to leave school early please check them out at the office, and if sick, please call and let the office know at the beginning of the school day. If you would like homework to be sent, you may request it to be prepared for the end of the school day as well.
Our curriculum is centered around the Common Core Standards for ELA and Math, as well as the Hawaii Content and Performance Standards. The Wonders program is used for reading/writing/language arts instruction. Writing instruction is given using the Step Up To Writing program. Math is instructed using the Singapore Math program. Social Studies uses the Hawaiians of Old text. Finally, science is instructed using the Scott Foresman science text. Supplemental materials are also explored throughout the year. We are a special grade level because we get to learn about Hawaiian Studies!
Fourth grade comes with high expectations for behavior. Every student has a right to a safe learning environment, and they are expected to act with awareness, safety, show mutual respect, be attentive listeners, and participate positively with one another.
We look forward to a successful school year together!
