Pacific hurricane season runs from June 1 through November 30. Hawaiʻi Foodbank wants to ensure all Oʻahu households are prepared before disaster strikes. While severe weather impacts vary, having immediate access to shelf-stable food during power outages or other disruptions is critical.

Recent severe weather events highlight the importance of early preparation. By pre-positioning resources and strengthening local preparedness, we can help our community better withstand and recover from emergencies.

To support our families, Hawaiʻi Foodbank and Salt Lake Elementary Staff are distributing Survivor Daily Rations (SDRs). SDRs are self-contained, shelf-stable emergency food pouches that require no cooking or refrigeration and are lower in sodium. Each pouch provides a full day’s nutrition for one person (approximately 2,200 calories) and includes two fully cooked entrées along with sides like crackers, cookies, or snacks, and eating utensils. SDRs should be opened during emergencies like hurricanes, severe storms, power outages, road closures, or when advised to shelter in place. Please store them in a cool, dry place alongside extra drinking water and save them for emergency situations.

We will distribute SDRs on Wednesday, 9/16, from 1:15 PM to 4:00 PM in our parking lot. Supplies are limited and will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis. Because each box contains 20 daily ration pouches, making it large and heavy, SDRs cannot be sent home with students and require an adult to pick them up.  

SLES is required to report the names and number of boxes distributed; if you plan to pick up an SDR, please complete the Google Form https://bit.ly/4xuYvNd. Completing the form does not guarantee an SDR, but it will help streamline and expedite the pickup process.
